What should I expect during my first visit at Smiles By The Sea Family Dentistry?

The first thing you can expect when you visit Smiles By The Sea Family Dentistry is a warm welcome from our team. Our front office staff will help make sure all of your necessary paperwork is completed, including your personal information and insurance details, so that everything can move smoothly throughout your visit.

During your first appointment, you may meet with one of our doctors or one of our hygienists, depending on your needs and the purpose of your visit.

The goal of your first visit is simple: we want to get to know you, understand your dental concerns, and learn about your goals for your oral health.

We will discuss both your short-term and long-term goals, whether you are interested in improving the appearance of your smile, addressing a specific dental concern, or improving your overall oral health and function.

Just as importantly, we want you to get to know us. Our goal is to make you feel comfortable, answer your questions, and help you understand the best options available for your dental care.

As your provider, my goal is to help you achieve and maintain long-term oral health. We will evaluate your oral health, discuss preventive care, and recommend treatment options if any concerns are identified.

What should I expect if I am nervous about visiting the dentist?

If you are nervous or anxious about your appointment, the most important thing you can do is communicate that to us.

Whether you are contacting Smiles By The Sea Family Dentistry for the first time by phone, email, or through our website, please let us know about any concerns, fears, or anxieties you may have. The more we know, the better we can help.

Our team is experienced in helping patients who feel nervous about dental treatment. We will take the time to understand your concerns and help you feel as comfortable as possible throughout your visit.

In fact, one of the questions our team often asks is whether there is anything we should know to help make your appointment more comfortable. We genuinely want to create a positive experience for you.

There are many ways we can help reduce anxiety and make your visit more comfortable. The key is simply letting us know how you're feeling so we can support you appropriately.

What should I expect if I come to Smiles By The Sea Family Dentistry with dental pain?

If you are experiencing dental pain, our team will begin by gathering information about your symptoms. We will ask questions about where the pain is located, how long it has been occurring, and any other details that may help us understand what is happening.

That information will be shared with me or one of our doctors so we can properly evaluate your situation.

During your visit, we will perform a thorough examination and take any necessary X-rays to evaluate the affected tooth and surrounding structures.

Once we identify the source of the problem, we will create a treatment plan and explain your options. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may be completed at Smiles By The Sea Family Dentistry, or we may recommend referral to a specialist if additional care is needed.

Most importantly, our goal is to help relieve your discomfort and guide you toward the appropriate treatment.

What happens after my dental appointment?

The answer depends on the type of appointment you had.

If you are a new patient, we will review our findings, discuss any treatment that may be needed, explain your options, and answer your questions. If treatment is recommended, we will help schedule your next appointment and provide any instructions you may need before your next visit.

If your teeth and gums are healthy and no treatment is needed, we will schedule your next preventive care appointment. Depending on your oral health needs, that may be in three, four, or six months.

If you visited Smiles By The Sea Family Dentistry because of a dental emergency or dental pain, we will explain our findings, discuss treatment recommendations, and provide any necessary referrals or follow-up instructions. In some cases, our team can even help coordinate appointments with specialists when needed.

If you came in for treatment, such as a filling, crown, root canal, denture appointment, dental implant procedure, or cosmetic treatment, we will review how the procedure went and provide detailed instructions for caring for your teeth afterward.

Regardless of the reason for your visit, you will leave with a clear understanding of your next steps, any home care instructions, and information about future appointments.

Why are communication and transparency important in dental care?

This is an excellent question and one that is very important to me.

Communication is one of the most important parts of a successful patient-provider relationship. I want to communicate openly with my patients, and I want patients to feel comfortable communicating openly with me and our team.

The more information we have about your health history, previous dental experiences, concerns, and goals, the better we can help you.

Transparency is equally important. We want to be honest and straightforward about what we find during your examination, what treatment may be needed, and why we are making those recommendations.

If there is a dental concern present, my goal is to help you become healthy. If your oral health is already in great shape, my goal is to help you stay healthy through preventive care and ongoing maintenance.

Transparency also extends to treatment costs and financial discussions. We want you to understand your treatment options, associated costs, and any available financing solutions so you can make informed decisions about your care.

At Smiles By The Sea Family Dentistry, our goal is to ensure that you fully understand your oral health, your treatment options, and what to expect throughout your dental journey.
